Who's doing what ?

2007: Our first steps.....

To make E.S.D.P work, our team shared out the different roles: in 2007 and 2008 it will be France, it is to say Véronique and Yaya, who will run the network. During the following 2 years it will be Marianne and her team’s turn (Holland), and later on it will be England’s turn.

On this year of 2007, we set ourselves 3 objectives:
- 1 °): to set up the web site (forum, gallery and Web space) for the community.
- 2 °): to put all the associations, the unions, the teachers and the design studios of ornamental painting in contact on the website to help them to be known in their regions and allow them to exchange ideas etc…
- 3 °): coordinate all the information connected to the activity of the ornamental painting in Europe such as the trainings, the agreements, the exhibitions, the new publications likely to interest the painters.

You who read these lines, dear painters, you can imagine the scale of the task. At the beginning, the site can seem poor in information, but if you contribute to its expansion, you would be able to be proud of your participation in the starting up of a great project! It is true that compared to our American friends (Society of Decorative Painters) with their 40.000 members and their 4000 teachers, we can seem very small... But, when we went to Indianapolis in 2003 during the 30th annual Agreement of American ornamental painting, the founder members reminded us that they were only ten at the starting up of their project, more than 30 years ago!
So imagine all we can expect during the next 30 years.... We have some long and beautiful years of ornamental painting ahead of us.

Another thing… and you will understand that the task is not as simple for us in Europe as it was for the Americans. We have 25 different languages to be taken into account in our communications. It is not that simple for our elected representatives during the meetings at the European Parliament, so you can only imagine the difficulties which are ahead of us, simple volunteers with our limited means. We still don’t know to date how we are going to solve these languages and translations problems. Nevertheless, you can be reassured because we shall find solutions. You can be certain about one thing, when you share a moment of ornamental painting with other painters, you have plenty of things in common... This is the originality of our community!

Let us know which are the associations that you know and we shall form together our great adventure of the European ornamental painting!

We are looking forward to read your remarks,

                                                                             Yours sincerely,
Véro and Yaya Turckheim on March 7, 2007

P.S.: Our American friends of the association Society of Decorative Painters (S.D.P) showed us their friendship and their support for our European project during our meeting in Indianapolis in 2003. Our friends from Quebec of the magazine "Coup de Pinceau" and the trade show " Passion Couleurs " assured us their support during our meeting in the trade show "Création & Savoir faire" in Paris in 2005. An article dedicated to our project was published in the magazine "Coup de Pinceau" of January/February, 2006. We deeply thank them for their encouragements.
